When we think about mobile accessories these days, the first thing that comes to our minds is a Power Bank. The capacity of the power banks available now varies from 2000mAh to 20000mAh. The longevity of a power bank may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer as well as depends on how the user is handling it.

How Does A Power Bank Work?
The power bank has a small socket for drawing power. This power can be drawn with the help of a USB cable from a source such as a computer or a laptop or from the wall socket adapter. For discharging, it uses full sized sockets whose number varies depending on the power capacity of the power bank.

After your Power Bank is fully charged, you can use it by plugging in a USB cable and connecting the power bank to your mobile phone. This will then transmit the power to your device and act as an appropriate savior.

As your device gets charged your power bank loses its charge. So you need to charge your power bank as and when it gets completely discharged and keep it ready for further use.

1)      If your power bank is of 10000mAh, it does not mean that it will allow you to charge a 2000mAh power 5 times. There is a loss of power in the battery and not all of it can be delivered to your phone or any other device.
2)      The power bank needs to be charged only when it is completely out of charge; otherwise, the battery life may tend to decrease eventually.
3)      A good power bank, when handled with care, can last for 6 weeks to 1 year depending on the usage frequency and the make of the device.
4)      If you are using the power bank only for traveling emergency, then make sure you charge the power bank fully at least once every month when it is not in regular use.
5)   Larger power banks with more power do not always mean the best one. You need to decide which one to use on the basis of your phone capacity.
6)   You should never overcharge your power bank as it might decrease the battery life. Refer to the LED indicator provided to see the percentage of charge on your power bank.

Types of Power banks

Power banks can be of 3 different types. They can be solar batteries which make use of the solar power for charging of phones. This is not so convenient for all. The second kind is the normal Li-ion battery which is the most widely used battery these days. They use the liquid electrolyte to store and convert the electrical energy and transmit them to the necessary device when in use.
Whereas, the third type, are the conventional batteries which are not compatible with most devices. That is they are device specific in nature.
Power bank batteries can be categorized again into two types. They are:

Li-ion batteries

These are easily available batteries which are used for most of the device batteries these days. They are inexpensive and hence can be bought easily by one and all. However, these kinds of batteries are not good enough as they discharge quickly, produce a huge amount of heat and do not last long. It also uses a liquid electrolyte to store and conduct the electric current.

Li-ion polymer batteries
These batteries are better and more useful as compared to the common Li-ion batteries. Unlike the conventional Li-batteries this type makes use of a solid electrolyte and thus the chance of leakage of electrolyte due to overheating is also taken care of. These batteries are not as easily available and it is expensive as well.
